Your Watch in Settings

“1.14 put FableFrog on your wrist and then left nothing on the phone pointing at it - no row in Settings, no way to tell whether the watch was actually connected or just quiet. There's a page now. Settings → Apple Watch tells you where the link stands and explains the four things about the watch app that aren't obvious from either screen.”

  • An Apple Watch Page in Settings - Settings → Apple Watch opens with a status line that says exactly where things stand: Connected when FableFrog is open on your wrist, Ready when the app is installed and waiting, Not on your watch yet when the watch is paired but the app isn't installed, and No watch paired when there's nothing to talk to. Each one tells you what to do about it rather than leaving you to guess. The row shows on any iPhone, paired watch or not - only devices that can't pair with a watch at all, like an iPad, leave it out
  • The Four Things the Watch App Doesn't Say About Itself - Under the status, the page explains what the watch actually is: the phone does the playing and the watch has no login and never talks to your server, so keep the phone nearby because out of range the controls do nothing; a complication puts the current book on your watch face and is the one-tap way back in; and the face can lag behind after you sign out or switch books until the watch app next runs, which opening it clears
