On Your Wrist

“FableFrog is on your wrist. There's a watch app - play and pause, skip by your own skip durations, jump to a chapter, set a sleep timer from your own presets, change speed with the Digital Crown - and a Now Playing complication that takes its tint from whatever face it sits on. Both are free, both are beta, and neither one ever talks to your server: the watch drives the phone, and the phone does the listening.”

New

  • An Apple Watch App - Play and pause, skip forward and back, jump to a chapter, set a sleep timer, change speed. The Now Playing screen carries the cover, the title, the author, which chapter of how many you're on, and how much of that chapter is left. The Digital Crown skips by your own configured skip durations, in your own configured direction. It's beta, and feedback is wanted - Settings → About → Report a Bug on the phone goes to the same tracker. Free for everyone, watchOS 10 or later
  • A Now Playing Complication - Add it to a watch face and you get what's playing and how far in you are, in whatever size the face has room for: circular, corner, rectangular, or the single inline line at the top. It takes its tint from the face rather than imposing its own, so it sits in a face you've already made rather than interrupting it. Tap it to open the watch app
  • Your Settings Come With It - The wrist isn't a second set of preferences to keep in sync. Your skip durations, your sleep timer presets - including the ones a specific book overrides - your speed, and your theme's accent all arrive from the phone. The sleep timer offers End of Chapter the way the player does. The speed grid holds the same eight quick speeds, and the Crown covers the same 0.25x to 3.5x
  • Nineteen Languages on a 41mm Screen - The watch app is translated everywhere the phone app is, down to the durations and the speed labels. A sleep timer reads "30 min" or "30 Min." or "30分" depending on where you are, because the durations are formatted by the locale rather than assembled from an English template

  • Light Themes on a Black Canvas - watchOS draws on black, so a light theme's own text colors land at about 1.3:1 against it - legible in a screenshot, not on a wrist in sunlight. The watch takes your theme's accent, which every shipped theme clears 3:1 with, and pairs it with the dark palette. Your green stays your green. It just sits on a background the watch can actually show

Fixed

  • The Band Under the Tab Bar Takes Your Theme - On every light theme, the strip beneath the floating tab bar turned white the moment something started playing, and stayed white until it stopped. The themed background now paints under the whole tab bar rather than stopping short of it
  • The Mini Player Sits Evenly - It had room above it and nothing below it, so it looked pressed against the tab bar rather than floating over it. The gap is the same on both sides now
  • No Empty "Narrated by" Row - Audiobookshelf sends an empty narrator rather than leaving it out, and a book with no narrator on record rendered the words "Narrated by" with nothing after them. A blank narrator is now treated as no narrator, on book detail, on Home, and on books you'd already downloaded before this release
